The Right Kind of Experience
Judge Thompson was first elected to a six-year term in November 2014.
On January 1st, 2016, Thompson was appointed Chief Judge by the Michigan Supreme Court. As Chief Judge, his responsibilities include providing leadership and administrative oversight to the 19th Circuit Court, 85th District Court and Probate Courts for Manistee and Benzie Counties.
Since assuming the bench, Judge Thompson has implemented various innovative court
programs that include: Adult Drug Recovery Court, Adult Offender Thinking Matters, a juvenile
mentoring program, and an after school program for at-risk youth. In addition, Thompson
established live-streamed court proceedings aimed at ensuring public access to the courthouse that was forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
